Ambassador’s Welcome Speech

I am pleased to welcome you to the official website of the Embassy of Georgia!

It is a great honor for me to represent Georgia in the Kingdom of Norway, a country with a rich cultural and historical heritage and with which our country has long-standing relations.

It is noteworthy that diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Norway were established following the founding of Georgia’s first democratic republic in 1918.

Unfortunately, the occupation by the Russian Bolshevik Red Army and the forcible incorporation of Georgia into the Soviet Union left our country isolated for 70 years. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Georgia regained its independence in 1991 and resumed diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Norway.

I would especially like to note Norway's active support for the territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders and the sovereignty of our country. Norway is a prominent supporter of Georgia on our country's path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration. The cooperation between our countries is multifaceted, and the existing partnership is successfully deepening. Georgia remains a reliable and valuable partner for Norway.

Georgia's unique geographical location, diversity of historical monuments, Georgian cuisine and hospitality make Georgia one of the most attractive destinations for tourists. Therefore, it is not surprising that the number of visitors to Georgia from Norway is increasing. I hope that this dynamics will continue to grow. It is worth noting that the number of Georgian tourists in Norway is also increasing every year. I would be happy if more Georgians would visit Norway and see the beauty of this country.

The Embassy's primary goal is to protect the interests of Georgia and its citizens. We will spare no effort to support the Georgian diaspora in Norway, to maintain its important role in the development of our country and to strengthen ties with the homeland.

Our daily activities are aimed at further deepening and strengthening the existing relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Norway in political, economic, cultural and other priority areas.
