THE HISTORICAL FLAG OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF GEORGIA DISPLAYED AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF GEORGIA, ON THE OCCASION OF THE NATIONAL FLAG OF GEORGIA

On the occasion of the National Flag of Georgia, the original flag of the Democratic Republic of Georgia has been exhibited at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

This flag, at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was traced to Eugène  Daleggio, a descendant of the noble family from Venice. The flag was officially handed over to Georgia, together with the archive of Eugène  Daleggio.

According to historical sources, members of the government in exile entrusted the national flag to Eugène  Daleggio in Constantinople hoping that they would return soon. This is confirmed by the signatures inscribed on the white strip of the flag by Svimon Mdivani, Deputy Chairman of the Constituent Assembly and Vasil Tsuladze, a member of the Constituent Assembly. The flag bears the signature of Eugène Daleggio as well, as a proof that he had received the flag into his custody. His signature is authenticated by the seal of the Consulate General of Georgia in Constantinople.

Only three-fifths of the original flag of the Democratic Republic of Georgia has come down to us. The Historical artefact is currently displayed in the central hall of the Ministry. Subsequently, it will be exhibited at the Georgian Museum of Diplomacy.
